Free Motorcycle Courses

The Cycle Rider Safety Training Program offers courses for riders of all skill and experience levels. These training courses are free to any Illinois resident 16 years of age or older who holds a valid automobile or motorcycle driver’s license or permit. The courses are designed to help riders manage their risk and increase their skills through riding and classroom instruction. Riders will sharpen their knowledge and riding skills and become a better and safer motorcycle rider.  Courses are generally conducted on weekends beginning on Friday night and concluding on Sunday afternoon April thru October.

The BRC is designed for the Beginning Rider, but is not limited to only new riders.  The course will include approximately 20 hours of instruction.  You will receive a course text book, 7 hours of classroom instruction, 13 hours of “hands-on” cycle instruction.  The Basic Riding Course will give you the physical skills to make your motorcycle perform like an extension of yourself and the knowledge to apply those skills appropriately.  Registrants are required to be at least 16 of age if they have a valid driver’s license or instruction permit.  Persons under 18 years of age need the written consent of a parent or legal guardian. TRAINING MOTORCYCLES and DOT APPROVED HELMETS ARE PROVIDED.

IRC - Intermediate Course

The IRC is designed for the intermediate rider, for the people who already have some experience as a motorcycle operator.  Maybe you rode years ago and still have a valid motorcycle endorsement but have been away from motorcycling for awhile.  This course is approximately 10 hours that includes classroom and hands on instruction.  Registrants are required to have a valid motorcycle endorsement (class “L” or “M”) or a motorcycle learner’s permit from the Illinois Secretary of State. TRAINING MOTORCYCLES and DOT APPROVED HELMETS ARE PROVIDED.
