The Cycle Rider Safety Training Program offers courses
for riders of all skill and experience levels. These
training courses are free to any Illinois resident 16
years of age or older who holds a valid automobile or
motorcycle driver’s license or permit. The courses are
designed to help riders manage their risk and increase
their skills through riding and classroom instruction.
Riders will sharpen their knowledge and riding skills
and become a better and safer motorcycle rider. Courses
are generally conducted on weekends beginning on Friday
night and concluding on Sunday afternoon April thru
October.
BRC -
Beginner
Course

The BRC is designed for the Beginning Rider, but is not
limited to only new riders. The course will include
approximately 20 hours of instruction. You will receive
a course text book, 7 hours of classroom instruction, 13
hours of “hands-on” cycle instruction. The Basic Riding
Course will give you the physical skills to make your
motorcycle perform like an extension of yourself and the
knowledge to apply those skills appropriately.
Registrants are required to be at least 16 of age if
they have a valid driver’s license or instruction
permit. Persons under 18 years of age need the written
consent of a parent or legal guardian.

HELMETS ARE PROVIDED.
IRC
-
Intermediate Course

The IRC is designed for the intermediate rider, for the
people who already have some experience as a motorcycle
operator. Maybe you rode years ago and still have
a valid motorcycle endorsement but have been away from
motorcycling for awhile. This course is
approximately 10 hours that includes classroom and hands
on instruction. Registrants are required to have a
valid motorcycle endorsement (class “L” or “M”) or a
motorcycle learner’s permit from the Illinois Secretary
of State.
TRAINING MOTORCYCLES and DOT APPROVED HELMETS ARE
PROVIDED.
ERC -
Experienced Course
The ERC is designed for riders with at least one year
and 1,000 miles of riding experience (or are a graduate
with at least six months and 500 riding miles of
experience), who can provide a street legal motorcycle
that is in good mechanical repair, and have a valid
motorcycle license. The one day course is half
classroom and half riding instruction. This riding
course is ONLY for experienced riders riding their OWN
Motorcycles.
Trike Course
The Trike Course is designed for those who have trike
riding experience and have their own trike. This course
will aid you in increasing your present skill level to
avoid accidents and ride safely.
Student must provide a long-sleeved shirt or jacket,
long pants (heavy material with straight legs), sturdy
over the ankle footwear (not cloth or canvas), full
fingered gloves and eye protection (i.e., glasses,
goggles, or face shield).
